Ludhiana, August 17, 2016 (Kanchan Sharma): Uber, the Smartphone app that seamlessly connects riders with drivers at the push of a button making cities more accessible has today launched its operations in Ludhiana, Punjab.
The launch of Uber in Ludhiana is in line with the MoU signed between the Government of Punjab and Uber last year for the launch of ridesharing services in the state. The landmark agreement outlined a partnership between the two to foster technological innovations while creating thousands of entrepreneurship opportunities.
At the launch, Aditya Varma, General Manager, Uber North Expansion, said, “Uber has a simple goal to provide access to reliable, safe and affordable transportation options for commuters across the country. We are incredibly excited to introduce Uber to Ludhiana as it takes our vision deeper into the cities. We are grateful to the government of Punjab for providing supporting environment to technology-led businesses.”

As Uber begins its operations in the city today, Hon’ble Member of Parliament from Ludhiana Ravneet Singh Bittoo felicitated the first 50 driver partners on the Uber platform.
Today, Uber is present in 28 Indian cities, more than in any other country outside the United States and China. With its current base of over 4 lakh driver partners, Uber is transforming the way people move around in cities.
