Amritsar, May 17, 2015 (Munish Sharma): The month of May this year seems to be an extended spring season. Music sounds best when the surroundings too are in the mood of spring when new leaves sprout. In these environs Delhi Public School conducted the ‘Inter- DPS School Hindustani Music Festival 2015’ consolidating its nine-sister schools in North India.

As many as nine schools including local DPS besides from Chandigarh, Jammu, Hisar, Karnal, Jalandhar, Patiala, Khanna, Gurdaspur and Greater Faridabad participated in the Inter DPS Hindustani Vocal Music Festival.

The occasion commenced with ‘Ganesh Stuti’ performed by the students of the host school opening the festival of music.

Chitra Singhal of DPS Jalandhar bagged the first prize in solo singing under the theme “Azadi ke Itihaas ke Panno Se”. Aaryan Sekhon of DPS Amritsar stood second while Simran of DPS Chandigarh stood third.

Under the group song theme of “Saugat –e- Kudrat” the host school DPS Amritsar, bagged the first prize while DPS Jalandhar and DPS Chandigarh stood second and third respectively.

Earlier, Host School Principal Sangeeta Singh, after welcoming the Chief Guest Dr. Jatinder Kaur, HoD Music, Khalsa college for Women, Amritsar on the occasion said, “This Music competition was aimed at instilling love for and familiarizing students with the rich traditions of Hindustani music. The competition was purely based on Hindi and Urdu dialects.” The special guest in her speech said, “Music expresses that which cannot be put in words and that which cannot remain silent.”

Prizes were distributed amongst winners by the Chief Guest.
