Shimla, May 16, 2015 (Online News Ind): Himachal is ready to implement the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) for procurement of processing grade mango during the year, 2015. A spokesman of the government of Himachal Pradesh said here today that the state government had approved this scheme and would be implemented from 1st July, 2015 to 15 August, 2015. He said that 34 fruit collection centres would be opened under the scheme.

He said that under the scheme 300 M.T. fruit of seedling and 200 M.T. of grafted varieties of mangoes would be procured at the rate of Rs. 5.50 per kg and Rs. 6.50 per k.g. respectively. Procurement of fruits would be done by HPMC and HIMFED in crates and these agencies would be allowed handling charges at the rate Rs. 1.30 per k.g.

He further said that like previous year, average sale returns from the fruits have been assessed as Rs. 2000 and Rs. 3000 per M.T. for fruit of seedling and grafted mango varieties respectively.

The spokesman said that 34 fruit collection centres would be opened under the scheme. The HPMC and HIMFED would coordinate for setting up of procurement centres on the basis of procurement data for the last three to five years. These centres would be opened by the procurement agencies on need basis and would be manned and operated by HPMC and HIMFED with their own staff.

He said that under the scheme, 2.5 percent extra fruit (by weight) would be procured from the farmers/orchardists keeping in view the evepo-transpiration and respiration losses during the procurement. He said that fruits will be procured from those farmers/orchardists who possess horticulture cards and who own 10 Bighas or less land under mango cultivation. He said that no fruit will be procured from the contractors.
