Chandigarh, March 08, 2015 (News Team): On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the 1st biogas plant under ENACTUS project, “BIO-INDHAN” was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Prof. Pushpinder Syal, Advisor, Secretary to Vice-Chancellor and Prof. of English, Panjab University, Chandigarh.  Prof. Nandita Singh, Dean Student Welfare (Women) was the guest of honor. Other faculty members of SSBUICET including Prof. V.K. Rattan and Prof. Anupama Sharma were also present on the occasion.

Enactus Dr. SSB. UICET, Panjab University is a non profit student organization consisting of 112 students and is headed by faculty advisor Prof. Seema Kapoor. The biogas plant has been constructed at Kasauli village; district Kharar, Punjab under the guidance of S. K. Goyal, DM, PEDA (Punjab Energy Development Agency). The project was envisaged with a vision to cover all households in Kasauli village and nearby villages for the usage of biogas as the primary fuel for cooking instead of firewood and cattle dung cakes and hence reduce the dependence of women on wood-chulhas which not only adversely affect their health but also emits hazardous gases which are detrimental to the environment, as conveyed by Prof. Kapoor.

Chandigarh, March 04, 2015 (News Team): The Chandigarh Press Club in association with Gyanvati Memorial Trust and Vishwa Dharam Chetna Manch organized a free Heart Checkup Camp under the leadership of Dr Naresh Trehan’s Team from Medanta Medicity Gurgaon today at club premises.

The camp got very good response from the members of the club and more than 125 members availed this opportunity by undergoing Blood Pressure, Sugar, ECG and ECHO tests.

Chandigarh, February 24, 2015 (News Team): Maharishi Dayanand Public School organized quiz in collaboration with department of Chandigarh Renewal Energy of Science and Technology. This quiz was divided into two categories junior and senior which was started with ten teams of each category. Five teams A, B, C, D and E were selected for middle round .Team B, C and E participated in final round for junior category.

It was tough competition. Team B Rohit and Dhruvsh stood first by getting 80 marks. Team E Deepika and Muskan got 70 marks and received second place. Team C Rahul and Sunny achieved 60 marks and stood third for the junior category.

Chandigarh, February 22, 2015 (News Team): Cultural function, performances and competitions marked the conclusion of the three days Chandigarh Rose Festival at Rose Garden, sector 16 in Chandigarh with the Mayor of Chandigarh Poonam Sharma distributing various prizes to the winners.

The Mayor was the chief guest on the occasion and distributed prizes to winners of various competitions, participants of cultural events, band parties as well as gardeners. Mayor lauded the efforts of all the team of officers to make the Rose festival success despite rainy day on the 20th February. Councilors and all senior officers were present during the prize distribution function.

Hiralal is touring from Kashmir to Kanyakumari on bicycle spreading awareness on promoting rights, dignity of girls and women in society.

Principal Dr. Jyoti Khanna extending a warm welcome to him and shared that Hiralal in the past also had undertaken many such campaigns in support of promoting national harmony, de-addiction, against drug abuse and prisoners of wars, for which he has been awarded by former President APJ Abdul Kalam.

Chandigarh, February 13, 2015 (News Team): 191th birthday of Maharishi Dayanand Sarswati was celebrated by Kendriya Arya Sabha at Arya Samaj, Sector 7B Chandigarh. A grand Shobha Yatra was held to mark the occasion, which started from Arya Samaj, Sector 7 and passing through sectors 8, 18-17 Printing Press light points, 17 and 22, it concluded at Arya Samaj, Sector 22.

The D.A.V. educational institutions and Arya Samaj organisations of Chandigarh, Panchkula, Mohali, Derabassi and Surajpur participated in it with full zeal and zest. Well decorated horse riders with flags, scenic presentation from the life of Swami Dayanand Sarswati, Vedas, yajna, patriotism, arya traditions, environmental purity, children with small flags bearing Aum, distribution of vedik literature and a large number of vehicles of different models made the Shobha Yatra remarkable.

Chandigarh, February 10, 2015 (Online News India): Maharishi Dayanand Public School Daria, Chandigarh organized a Poster Making Competition in collaboration with Chandigarh Renewal Energy, Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST) Chandigarh.

Maximum students participated in the competition. This competition was divided into junior and senior categories. Through the competition students expressed five principles of renewable sources of energy sun, wind, flowing water, biomass and heat from within the earth. Solar energy comes directly from the sun. The sun is a constant natural source of heat and light. Its radiation can be converted into electricity. Wind turbines produce electricity. Hydro-turbines use water power to generate hydroelectricity. Biomass is used to make heat, electricity and liquid fuels.

The Chandigarh zonal finals which were held at the Sports Complex, Sec 46, Chandigarh saw 1500 plus students from 50 plus participating schools compete against each other in major sporting categories like Athletics, Volleyball, Basketball, Hockey and Judo. The zonal finals were kick started with great amount of enthusiasm and zeal amongst the coaches and parents and saw a healthy competitive spirit amongst all participants. Govt Sr Secondary School, Devinagar Avram, Mohali was declared as the winner of the Chandigarh Zonal final. Saint Soldier Sr Secondary School bagged the first runners up prize.
